Professional Summary

I am an extremely intuitive and creative IT professional, capable of accomplishing whatever task is at hand. Working with a variety of skill sets, such as project management, network administration, software development and internet service, I bring to the table a range of technical expertise.  I possess the ability to see the big-picture.  I can analyze the particulars from a detail oriented perspective.  This allows me to identify technical issues and engineer creative solutions. I am an excellent problem solver.  I have the ability to develop software and solutions to overcome a variety of problems, facilitate automation and empower users to be more productive.

 

I am currently seeking a new opportunity with a proven Baltimore/Washington technical consulting company, in a project management capacity.  I am particularly interested in employment that will utilize my talents and keep me challenged, and compensate me for it.

 

Areas of Experience

Network Operating Systems – Architecture and Implementation

I have an excellent understanding of network models, and have working knowledge with various Network Operating Systems, from design to implementation to support.  I have participated in many projects to design, re-engineer or migrate to or from existing networks.  I am familiar with technologies, issues and design considerations.  I consider myself extremely proficient with the Windows NT/2000 product line, including Active Directory technologies.  I have a good familiarity with Novell Netware and various UNIX platforms.

Network Administration

I am proficient at performing administrative tasks on Windows NT/2000 and Novell environments, such as:  login script development & manipulation, user account maintenance and planning, email integration, virus protection, backup strategies, performance monitoring, security auditing, and application deployment.

Project Management

I have the detail-oriented mindset to properly prepare for projects, to foresee potential pitfalls, and to plan around them.  This helps to keep the project on target and expectations met.   My personable attitude helps me to work with people, and to motivate them to put forth their best.

Internet/Intranet Design and Implementation

I have an in-depth understanding of web-based applications and services, as well as a web-development background.  I have designed and developed internet application servers, provided internet access to various email systems and networks, and assisted in internet and intranet network planning.  I have designed and developed several TCP/IP based client-server tools and web-enabled various applications.

Network Automation

I am skilled in the art of  software deployment, development of software to keep network and Active Directory accounts up to date, and development of web sites and tools to facilitate employee self service.  These things help to diminish the employee’s requirement of personal support staff visits.

Programming and Development

I am an experienced developer, flexible enough to automate system login scripts, build back-end web applications or client-server tools and utilities.  I have written web servers from scratch, and integrated these into custom applications.  Visual Basic is my language of choice, but I have experience with VBScript, java script, perl, Pascal, C, SQL, DOS Batch, Kixtart and other tools like InstallShield and SMS installer.

Software

From operating systems, office suites or email packages, I have used, configured, dissected and distributed a wide variety of software.  I am familiar with system requirements and various issues involving different packages and compatibility.

Telenor Satellite Services, 10/2002 – Present

Network Supervisor

Hired from Lochkeed Martin to design, purchase, implement and manage the network of a divesting business unit.  Directly responsible for the daily operation of the Windows 2000 network, to include file systems, email, database servers (Oracle 8.x), application servers such as PeopleSoft CRM, Vantive, ADP Payroll, MindSparX billing.  Tasks included infrastructure design and implementation, migration planning, hardware evaluation, recommendation and purchase and fully automated distribution of core applications.  Problem solver, automation facilitator, sanity checker… I am a big hammer for squashing Telenors’ minor problems.

 

Comsat Corp/Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, 2/1999 – 10/2002

Sr. Network Administrator

o        Project manager for a enterprise Windows 2000 migration supporting approximately 2000 users at 7 locations.    Directly responsible for day top day operations of the network infrastructure, email systems (MS Exchange, Post.Office), database systems (Oracle 7.x, 8.x and SQLBase), application servers (Peoplesoft financials, Vantive, ADP, HRizon), backups (Veritas) and user connectivity.  In my spare time I developed enterprise software to automate account creation and synchronization with HR data, developed front-end web application to query real-time satellite databases, developed web-enabled user account administration tool for use by the support staff.

OnSite Technologies, Inc. 9/1996 – 2/1999
Systems Engineer/Technical Consultant.

First National Bank of Maryland, Baltimore.
Contracted to provide LAN Administration for the Marketing division. Supported proprietary database servers, maintained and refreshed data. Maintained a Novell 3.12 and Windows NT LAN and cc:mail server. Provided all levels of support, including assistance and direction to help desk staff, provided technical recommendations to staff about the future of their network, as well as user support.

COMSAT, Bethesda Maryland.
Customer requested I return for special project. Involved construction of Novell 3.12 server, cc:mail server, user account & data migration.  Provided technical expertise regarding the imaging of end-user’s PCs and assisted with resolving various technical problems encountered by COMSAT staff.

Ferris, Baker Watts. Washington, D.C.
Assessed conversion issues for migrating from a 3270/Windows 3.1/Windows 95 environment to a Windows NT 4.0 and SNA environment supporting approximately 350 users. Performed requirements analysis. Analyzed numerous DOS based applications for conversion & redevelopment. Re-developed visual dBase programs in MS Access 97. Developed a customized, full featured help desk tool using Visual Basic 5.0. Worked closely with users to develop office automation tools to streamline tasks.

COMSAT. Bethesda, MD.
Performed as project and technical lead for a Windows 3.1/Word Perfect to Windows 95/Office 95 migration. Proposed and developed solutions for upgrading a 350 user Novell 3.x and cc:mail LAN, resulting in a 70% reduction in help desk calls. Determined time frames, resources requirements, and task schedule. Organized and managed the migration effort. Designed the various images to be used. Beta tested and troubleshot the system. Provided user support and diagnostic efforts for special non-standard applications and assisted in their conversion where applicable.

AmeriData/GE Capitol.
Performed as team lead for a large scale (75+ city) Windows NT 3.51/Office 95/Peoplesoft deployment and migration. Evaluated and modified deployment approach and procedures. Assembled/built servers to specifications, managed on-site technical resources.  

K&C Federal  1995 – 1996    
Internet Developer/WWW Specialist.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington, D.C.
Contracted to the Telemedicine Project in Washington, DC. Developed World Wide Web information servers for use by Walter Reed as well as the North Atlantic Health Service Support Area (NAHSSA). Developed custom CGI Internet applications for secure remote content management and personnel directory assistance. Developed custom graphics, content and documentation for this site.

 

National Multimedia Association of America 1995

Information Systems Manager, Internet Analyst.
Responsible for engineering and integrating the internet service portion of the National Multimedia Association of America. Set up, configured and maintained Internet servers and routers. Managed and optimized internal and external networks and remote access servers. Developed on-line Internet applications, databases and search engines and web sites. Developed custom desktop software. Prepared user manuals. Extensive Windows NT server and workstation configuration, Remote Access administration, maintenance, and management.
